Mercedes E-Class Saloon
The E Class is the premium saloon for you if you’re after a more subdued, comfortable alternative to the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6. In simpler terms, if the 5 Series is the Rolling Stones, the E-Class is all-out Barry White. It’s just smoother.
There are plenty of models to pick from in the range, from entry-level cars that excel on a motorway cruise right up to the powerful AMG models that focus on performance above all else. There are Estate, Coupe, Cabriolet and chunky off-road All-Terrain models as well, which we’ve reviewed separately.
For 2020, every E-Class has had some subtle design tweaks, including a new grille, bonnet and wheel designs, as well as new color options. Inside things have changed too. There are new trim colors, leather seats come as standard, the seat design itself is new and the steering wheels have changed offering even more functionality.
The latest E-Class gets Mercedes’ newest infotainment set-up, which includes clever voice control features, a feature-rich sat-nav and twin 12-inch displays now as standard. There’s a new touch pad controller for this system on the center console, too, which does away with the old rotary dial controller. Some will like it, others won’t.
There’s loads of room in the back seats, a big boot – especially in the estate model – and plenty of in-cabin storage, so the E-Class is a practical car. You’d hope so, as the E-Class’ dimensions make it feel pretty large in town in the UK. This is true of other cars like it as well, though.
Sport
AMG Line
AMG Line models get sportier looks than basic SE cars. They get 19-inch alloy wheels, AMG bumpers and side skirts, and an Artico (fake) leather interior that extends on to the dashboard and door caps. The open pore (unvarnished) ash wood looks brilliant, and you also get front seats with lumbar support and a three-spoke steering wheel finished in Nappa leather. All the kit that SE models get is carried over, so you get a parking camera with automatic park, LED lights front and back, keyless go, and satellite-navigation.
AMG Line Edition
The AMG Line Edition of the E CLASS has 19-inch alloy wheels and exclusive AMG styling cues. It has rear privacy glass and uprated brake discs. Partly ARTICO leather upholstery can be found inside, as can metal sports pedals.
AMG Line Night Edition
The AMG Line Night Edition has 20-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and exclusive AMG decals. It has a 360-degree parking camera, wireless phone charging, steel sports pedals and ARTICO leather.
AMG
The AMG model comes equipped with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, a full AMG styling pack featuring sportier bumpers and side sills, black door mirrors and a 'Diamond' grille insert. Inside, extra AMG logos, red seat belts and black nappa leather with red stitching sets it apart from other E-Class models.
AMG Night Edition
Over and above the AMG Line Premium model, the Night Edition has 20-inch alloy wheels, black styling details on the outside, a panoramic sunroof and a Burmester stereo system.
